Samoa ensured the best possible preparation for next weekend's Test clash with Scotland in Apia by clinching victory in the Pacific Five Nations on Sunday.
Stephen Betham's side produced a stirring fightback from 16-0 down to defeat defending champions Japan 27-26 at Prince Chichibu Memorial Stadium, securing a second title in three years.
"I am lost for words," Betham said. "We knew Japan wouldn't just give us the cup. We knew we had to win it off them. They played very well and forced us into making mistakes. They sure gave us a good fight."
Scotland continued their unbeaten June tour in Lautoka on Saturday, where they defeated Fiji 37-25.
Edinburgh winger Tim Visser bagged a brace on debut to ensure victory, having watched from the stands as his team-mates snatched a famous victory over Australia in Newcastle two weeks ago.
