Born in Cordoba, Orquera progressed to play Test rugby for Italy during a spell with Petrarca Padova. His Italy debut, against Canada in 2004, was followed by a run in the 2005 Six Nations, where he started every game, but he would then spend three years away from the international landscape. He spent time with Auch at club level before joining Brive in the Top 14, eventually winning a recall to the Italian side in 2008. In 2010 and 2011 he shared the playmaking duties with first Craig Gower and later Kris Burton, and was guilty of a horror defensive display in a big defeat to England at Twickenham.
