Braam van Straaten was the toast of South Africa after kicking seven goals in their 46-40 Tri-Nations thriller against the All Blacks in Johannesburg. Thinus Delport, Robbie Fleck and Werner Swanepoel scored two tries a piece with Chester Williams also crossing for a seventh try. Christian Cullen and Tana Umaga both grabbed braces for the visitors who left Ellis Park with a bonus point.
Teenager Lewis Jones scored a full set to clock up 16 points in the Lions' 19-6 Test win against Australia in Brisbane. Jones was the first Lion to fly on tour, having been called up as a replacement for Ireland's George Norton. The journey took him four days but he made up for lost time scoring 63 points in seven games in New Zealand before his outstanding contribution in Australia.
New Zealand claimed the 2006 Tri-Nations with a 34-27 victory over Australia at Auckland. They wrapped up their fourth title in five years after recovering from a 20-11 half-time deficit with Chris Jack and Luke McAlister scoring tries and Dan Carter's boot seeing them home.
Australia lost their first match on New Zealand soil going down 23-7 against Wellington/Wairarap/Horowhenua Combined in Wellington.
Five Nations champions France were walloped 32-3 in Christchurch in the third and final Test of their New Zealand tour. Weary at the end of a long season, the tourists were whitewashed 3-0 in their first series in New Zealand.
The All Blacks helped the NZRU celebrate its 75th anniversary with a 29-9 win over Australia at Wellington. Tony Miller makes his 41st and final appearance for Australia and at 38 becomes his country's oldest Test player.
Despite some disappointing early tour provincial match results, the Wallabies gave New Zealand a stern examination in the opening Test of their three-match series before losing by the odd point, 13-12, at Athletic Park, Wellington. Bryan Williams scoring the All Blacks' try and full-back Bevan Wilson landing three penalties.
