Ian Foster was named All Blacks assistant coach in December 2011 following the appointment of Steve Hansen as the new All Blacks head coach.

Foster previously coached the Chiefs in Super Rugby from 2004 to 2011 as well as acting as co-coach to the Junior All Blacks between 2005 and 2007.
