The Crusaders have snapped up Highlanders fly-half Matt Berquist for the inaugural Super Rugby season while also locking down two key backs to new deals.
Berquist, 27, is currently playing for Auckland in the ITM Cup and he has also played for Hawke's Bay and Otago. Crusaders head coach Todd Blackadder said Berquist was a valuable acquisition.
"Matt's a very good all-round player and an excellent goalkicker. We're sure he will fit in at the Crusaders very well," Blackadder said.
The capture of Berquist follows hot on the heels of confirmation that Canterbury fly-half Stephen Brett will spend another season with the Blues.
Star All Blacks fly-half Dan Carter will likely be managed prior to next season's Rugby World Cup, while Colin Slade has also left the Crusaders in search of first-team football.
The Crusaders have also re-signed wing Zac Guildford and halfback Kahn Fotuali'i.
"Both Zac and Kahn played very well for the Crusaders last season. It was Zac's first season with us and he impressed me with his work ethic and ability. Kahn has been with us since 2007 and he had a stand-out year last year," Blackadder said.
