Scrum-half Piri Weepu has been ruled out of the All Blacks' end of year tour after breaking his leg during Wellington's ITM Cup clash with Taranaki.

Weepu had his right ankle twisted in a tackle after attempting a chip through in the 44th minute of the Westpac Stadium clash where the hosts eventually notched a 49-15 bonus point victory.

SkySport reported during the match that Weepu had been rushed to hospital where it was later confirmed he had a broken leg.

His injury will almost certainly affect the makeup of the New Zealand squad for the end of year tour for matches in Hong Kong and Europe tthat will be named tomorrow with Wellington No.9 Alby Matthewson a prime candidate to take his place.
