1995
Channel 4 broadcast the Fair Game programme in which England captain Will Carling referred to the RFU's committee as "57 old farts." Twenty-four hours later, Carling, who led England to the Five Nations Grand Slam in 1991, 1992 and 1995, would be sacked, with president Dennis Easby declaring it was "inappropriate" for him continue. RFU secretary Dudley Wood said, "It is a very sad day for English rugby. It was strongly felt by the committee that his position as captain was untenable. His attack on the committee who had appointed him gave them no alternative but to dismiss him." He was reinstated within days.

1924
Romania guaranteed their first ever Olympic medal, simply by turning up to be overwhelmed 61-3 by France as one of only three contenders for the rugby title. Defending champions United States, featuring seven of the players who had won the gold medal in 1920, went on to retain their crown thanks to 37-0 victory over Romania and a 17-3 win against hosts France in the title-decider at the Stade Colombes. It was the last time that rugby would feature in the Olympics.

1960
Scotland claimed their first ever win on tour, beating Griqualand West 21-11 at Kimberley.

1935
Special matches to mark the Silver Jubilee of King George V were staged at Twickenham and Cardiff. Barbarians beat London Counties 34-3 and a Welsh XV defeated the Rest 13-5 at the Arms Park.

1968
Five London Welsh players, including skipper John Dawes, bolstered London Counties in their end-of-season 16-6 win against Paris at the Jean Bouin Stadium.

1974
London Welsh's three-year unbeaten run in the Middlesex Sevens ended when they were beaten 34-16 by Richmond in the final.
