Italy winger Mirco Bergamasco is set to miss this season's Six Nations tournament after fracturing a knee cap during the Azzuri's defeat to Australia on Saturday. The Italian Rugby Federation (FIR) confirmed on Sunday that the Racing Metro winger will be out for up to five months with the injury. Bergamasco suffered the injury early in the second half of Italy's 19-22 defeat to the Wallabies in Florence. Originally it was feared he had suffered a rupture but it was later confirmed as a fracture. "Medical exams revealed no ligament injury, and the surgery was a complete success," the FIR said. Italy begin their Six Nations campaign against France on February 3 and go on to play Scotland, Wales and England before their final clash with Ireland on March 16. Prop Andrea Lo Cicero, meanwhile, left the field in the first half having suffered a blow to his throat and fractures to two ribs. The FIR said that Cicero could be out for several weeks. © ESPN EMEA Ltd
