Racing Metro are reportedly interested in signing Munster and British & Irish Lions scrum-half Conor Murray.

The Parisian side have already been heavily linked with a move Sean O'Brien whose contract is up at the end of the season. Jacky Lorenzetti, Metro's owner, will attend Ronan O'Gara's testimonial dinner on Thursday and reports in the Irish Independent claim he will step up his efforts to recruit both O'Brien and Murray.

Munster coach Rob Penney also has Paul O'Connell out of contract at the end of the season and he finds himself in a similar situation to his Welsh counterparts who have already admitted at being hamstrung by the ongoing row surrounding the future of the Heineken Cup.

Munster are yet to declare their position on whether they will join the breakaway Rugby Champions Cup or stick with the Heineken Cup and Penney admits the uncertainty is likely to have some impact on their contract negotiations though he is confident Munster will not be left behind.

"No, not at this point (there is no worry) as there is too many things up in the air, but potentially there is a challenge there," Penney told the Irish Independent. "I'm sure that the Irish delegates are working really hard behind the scenes to make sure everyone is going to get out of it what they need - particularly to get a good positive outcome for Irish rugby.

"It's too important to European rugby not to have a collective top competition that embraces everybody. I can't see the Irish people getting left out in the cold. That would be detrimental to Ireland and to the competition because they have done so well in those competitions."
