Scarlets boss Simon Easterby has admitted the non-payment of Heineken Cup appearance fees is a worry for the region.
European Rugby Cup Ltd - the body in charge of the Heineken Cup - said on Wednesday it was not releasing any participation payments until its next meeting which is believed to be on February 19.
To date the Welsh regions are reportedly owed in the region of £800,000 with Aviva Premiership clubs £1.57m out of pocket. Premiership Rugby has since said it is seeking legal advice over what they perceive to be a breach of contract and the Scarlets boss Easterby admitted his concern over the £200,000 the region is owed.
"It's a large chunk of money that goes towards cash-flow and making sure the business runs smoothly," Easterby told the BBC. "Two hundred grand is probably a drop in the ocean to some French clubs but to us and other regions it's a lot of money, and it's money that currently we can't afford not to have."
The Welsh Rugby Union has since offered to loan the outstanding money to the regions.
"All the regions have indicated publicly that the payment delay is causing them serious financial consequences," a statement from the WRU read. "The WRU is prepared to cover the full amount of postponed payments on a temporary basis subject to the loan getting formal WRU board and bank approval.
"The loan offer was made to the Regions before the ERC Board meeting on Wednesday February 5 when the postponement of payment distributions was confirmed. If the WRU receives a request from the regions the governing body would consider it positively as a matter of urgency."
