Delon Armitage has yet again found himself at the centre of a storm after he became involved in a social media spat with former England hooker Brian Moore after the latter criticised his controversial try celebration during his side's Heineken Cup final victory over Clermont Auvergne on Saturday.

Moore was one of many who expressed their views about Armitage's antics. "If a player did to me what Armitage has just done I'd have to chin him after the touchdown," he wrote on Twitter.

Armitage piled in straight away. "'Anytime you fat p****! Go write another s*** book," he wrote on Twitter in reference to Moore's award-winning autobiography Beware of the Dog. The tweet has since been deleted. Moore responded in kind by saying, "Delon, at least I can write," before thanking Armitage for mentioning his book and providing a link to where it could be purchased.

Armitage is no stranger to controversy having served a string of suspensions - including an eight-week ban for pushing and verbally abusing a doping officer - before quitting the Premiership for France's top flight last year and he courted more trouble with a foul-mouthed response to Moore's comments that may incur the wrath of the authorities.

Scotland international Chris Cusiter was another to find fault with Armitage's behaviour and tweeted: "Since when did the values of rugby include taunting an opponent in the act of scoring a try? Disgraceful."

And Harlequins fly-half Nick Evans wrote: "Delon Armitage better hope Toulon win after that. #NoClass".

Armtiage has also been the subject of criticism for a high tackle on Clermont scrum-half Morgan Parra during the first half of the game that went unpunished.
