Profile

Munster's Keith Earls burst onto the regional scene at the start of the 2008-09 season, with performances from fullback and outside-centre putting him firmly in contention for international honours with Ireland. Earls was an unused substitute in Munster's 2008 Heineken Cup final win, a mark of the esteem he is held in by then Munster coach Declan Kidney, now boss of Ireland.

Earls' father, legendary Young Munster player Ger Earls, never managed a full Ireland cap but the younger Earls made his international bow against Canada in November 2008 and took only three minutes to register his first try.

Earls won a second cap against New Zealand, and is part of an exciting new breed of Irish backs alongside the likes of Luke Fitzgerald and Rob Kearney. He did not feature for Ireland in the 2009 Six Nations but was still rewarded with a place in the British & Irish Lions squad for their tour to South Africa and despite impressing in the midweek fixtures, he did not feature in the Tests.

Earls started on the wing in Ireland's victory over South Africa in November played his first Six Nations game off the bench against Italy in February 2010. He was called into the starting line-up against France and retained his place for Tests against England and Wales, scoring once at Twickenham and twice against the Welsh.

Earls pushed on for Munster and Ireland in the 2010-11 season alternating between outside centre, the wing and fullback and was a key part of the team which took the 2011 Celtic League title.

Earls filled the left-wing berth for all of Ireland's World Cup games before making a decent fist of standing in for Brian O'Driscoll at outside centre for the Six Nations.
