England will be protecting a perfect record when they collide with Samoa at Twickenham on Saturday afternoon. The two sides have met five times, with England triumphing on each occasion.
Their first encounter occurred at the 1995 World Cup, with Rory Underwood accounting for two of England's four tries as they recorded a 44-22 win which saw them beat their opponents to top spot in the pool.
They were drawn together again in the 2003 tournament, with England again coming out on top, this time 35-22 after a surprisingly tight affair.
They locked horns again in France four years later. The pressure was on England after a dismal 36-0 defeat by the Springboks in their previous game but Brian Ashton's men claimed a morale-boosting 44-22 win, a result which proved the catalyst for a remarkable run all the way to the final.
