Profile

George North has emerged as one of the most talented wingers in the modern game and already has two Six Nations titles to his name despite his tender years.

He was just 18 when he was named in Wales' squad for the 2010 November internationals having burst on to the professional scene with a two-try haul for the Scarlets in the Magners League earlier that season.

A debut followed against South Africa and North marked it in style, scoring twice and laying on another in a narrow defeat, but a shoulder injury and subsequent surgery sidelined him for three months. But he showed no ill-effects of this as he returned in the summer of 2011 in good form, scoring two tries in a World Cup warm-up clash with England and held on to his place in the squad for the tournament itself and where he featured in every match.

He was instrumental in Wales' 2012 Grand Slam, and although he only scored once he formed a strong partnership with Alex Cuthbert on the flank. But like Wales, his form drifted off in the latter stages of 2012. Come the 2013 Six Nations he looked to be back to his best and he roared back into contention for the Lions tour with an impressive Six Nations campaign, which included a vital late try against France in Paris.

North was selected for the Lions and went on to have an outstanding score, scoring one of the best tries in Lions history in the opening Test and touching down again in the decisive final test victory over the Wallabies, which saw the Lions claim their first series win since 1997. His duel with Wallaby winger Israel Folau was one of the highlights of the series.

His top international form prompted a bid from Aviva Premiership side Northampton, which came to be at the epicentre of a row between the Scarlets and the Welsh Rugby Union. The region tabled an offer to keep North in Wales, but he opted to sign a three-year deal with Northampton prior to the 2013-14 campaign.

There was no let up for North as in April he was selected to tour Australia with the British & Irish Lions. He went on to take a starring role on the tour and was a key figure in their 2-1 series victory - most notable scoring a sensational solo try in the first Test.
