Profile

Chris Oti played 13 times for England on the wing between 1988 and 1991. His career was brief but he left his mark. Called into the England side for the Calcutta Cup match in 1988, he became the first coloured player to play for them for more than 80 years. He finished that Five Nations campaign with a hat-trick of tries against Ireland, the first by an English player at Twickenham since 1924. During that performance the crowd started singing Swing Low, Sweet Chariot and that has remained a Twickenham anthem since.

He retained his place the following season, scoring four more tries, but injury kept him out the Test side on the British Lions tour of Australia. In 1991 he played twice in the World Cup but injuries again returned and forced a premature end to his career.
