Traille played all five Tests of France's 2002 Grand Slam triumph and would go on to become a respected and important member of the squad. He has played at two Rugby World Cups, including a disastrous spell at fullback as France lost to England in the 2007 semi-final, as well as tasting more Grand Slam success in 2004. His versatility has often been a boost to the French lineup, having played Tests at 10, 12 and 15, but his strength remains his physicality and kicking game from inside-centre. In 2009 he began their Test season in the centre, but was again switched to fullback for their November victory over South Africa and defeat to New Zealand in Marseille. A long-time servant of Biarritz, he was on hand to help the Basque side to the Top 14 title in 2006, the same season that they were defeated by Munster in the Heineken Cup final.
Traille remains an integral part of Biarritz and the national side. However, he sat out the 2010 Grand Slam triumph failing to play a single time for France during the Six Nations. But he was soon back in the mix for their autumn internationals in 2010 - after he missed Biarritz's 2010 Heineken Cup final through injury - and played in four of France's five matches during the Six Nations. He will go to the World Cup as part of the national side's 30-man squad for the tournament.
