Armitage boys back for England

England manager Martin Johnson has named three new caps and reunited the Armitage brothers in his side to face Argentina at Old Trafford on Saturday.

Bath wing Matt Banahan, Newcastle prop David Wilson and Toulon-bound utility back Tom May all make their international bows after featuring in the loss to the Barbarians at Twickenham last weekend, while brothers Delon and Steffon Armitage start together for England for the second time. Their only previous appearance together came against Italy the opening game of the 2009 Six Nations.

Delon Armitage starts at fullback with Banahan and Sale's Mark Cueto while Steffon will pack down on the openside in a back-row also featuring James Haskell and Harlequins No.8 Nick Easter.

After starting against the Baa-Baas, Ben Foden, Lewis Moody, Jamie Noon, Jordan Turner-Hall and Chris Robshaw all drop out of the 22.

May admitted that he'd shared an emotional moment with his father after telling him the news of his first England cap.

"It is not often my Dad cries but he had a bit of a blub on the phone when I told him. I didn't quite know how to handle it," said May. "There have been times over the last 10 years when I thought I might have missed out on the opportunity but I have always believed I had the ability and it has been one of my goals."

Johnson praised his new caps after their performance against the Barbarians, singling out all three for praise as well as Harlequins prospect Turner-Hall.

"We've known about David all year and the Barbarians were an opportunity for him to have a go. He took it and played very well," said Johnson. "He handled himself well in the game and off the field he's been good. We've got Julian White on the bench, an experienced guy.

"Jordan Turner-Hall had a pretty good game at centre and did well in his first England match. But Tom was very impressive when he came off the bench and we decided to go for his experience. Matt was very impressive last week. He offers something different that no other winger we have does - his size and ability in the air. His all-round game is very good as well."

May has been given the nod at inside-centre, the position in which he first caught the attention of England's selectors in 2002, but has excelled at fly-half and fullback for Newcastle last season.

"I have tried to steer away from the 'Mr Versatile' tag. I would have preferred to nail down one position and stuck with that," he said. "I got more recognition when I was playing for Newcastle in the centre than when I was on the wing and started playing full-back. Having played the last half of the season at fly-half it helped me take games by the scruff of the neck. I was able to do that at inside centre but at wing or full-back it is harder to do that. "Inside centre is my preferred position and now I seem to have gone full circle and I am back there."
