Leicester Tigers' scrum-half Ben Youngs is set for more time on the sidelines after returning from World Cup duty injured.
The 22-year-old half-back underwent the surgeon's knife on his left knee prior to the World Cup campaign but is yet to feature for the Tigers after England's quarter-final exit. Last Friday saw the return of England's Toby Flood and Manu Tuilagi, among others, to the starting line-up for Richard Cockerill's side and the director of rugby would not be drawn on how long he expects to be without his first-choice scrum-half.
"We need to get the full low-down on what happened while he has been with England," Cockerill told the Leicester Mercury. "But, at the moment, his knee is not good enough to play at this level.
"He's a world-class player and left us four months ago fully fit and has come back with a pretty average knee so we need to get on top of that. We end up taking the hit player-wise but that always seems to be the way.
"His knee isn't great and we have to manage and look after it and make sure he is fully fit when he comes back, which he is not at the moment."
Another of Leicester's returning charges is set to return for the side against Sale on Friday. Martin Castrogiovanni has been struggling with a hamstring injury though should be fit to bolster the Tigers' front-row.
