A native of York, Webber attended school at Pocklington where he was a Yorkshire javelin champion. He started his professional rugby career at Leeds, moving on to Wasps and later Bath after age-grade representation with England.
After moving to Adams Park he established himself as first choice hooker in 2008-09 and featured for England on the IRB Sevens circuit in 2008, before playing in the Churchill Cup that year. In the absence of the injured Tom Rees, Webber captained Wasps in 2009-10 and capped a strong season by being named in the England squad for the end of year tour.
Webber failed to make a Test breakthrough, but was named in the squad for the 2012 Six Nations and eventually made his international debut off the bench against Italy in Rome. Further cameos followed against Wales and France before injury struck, ending his campaign.
Surgery on his shoulder delayed his Bath debut at the start of the 2012-13 season but he did eventually regain his fitness and a fine run of form saw him rewarded with selection for England's tour of Argentina and the captaincy for their non-Test clash with the Barbarians.
