A product of the Cardiff Blues academy, Robinson initially made an impact with Cardiff at Premiership level and was also selected for service with Wales' Sevens side. In January 2012 he made an eye-catching cameo off the bench for the Blues against then reigning European champions Leinster, a showing that in part made him a surprise inclusion in Warren Gatland's Six Nations squad weeks later.
