South Africa winger Bryan Habana looks set to turn down overtures from Japan and commit his future to the Western Province.

The 28-year-old was reportedly courting interest from the Far East, specifically the Kobe Steelers, but he has opted to stay in Cape Town for a further three years according to his agent Craig Livingstone. The commitment will see him sign a contract rumoured to be less lucrative than his previous deal. Habana's decision will keep him in the Springboks' selection mix with the likes of Francois Hougaaard likely to pose a threat to his spot in the national team.

Jaque Fourie is also being courted by Far East clubs but no announcement has been made on his future while Peter Grant has already committed to a Japan move. Habana was in action for the Western Province at the weekend as they booked their spot in the Currie Cup semi-finals with a convincing win over the Pumas and the Boks winger marked his return to club duty with a try.
