Former New Zealand international Brewer joined the national team set-up last year and is now looking to succeed Frank Hadden, who stepped down just over three weeks ago after four years in charge. However, Brewer, 44, believes former England boss Andy Robinson is favourite for the role.

"He's probably the best person for the job, if you're looking at progressing your coaches through," he told BBC Scotland. "I will be putting in my application on Monday.

"I'm away around England to see the exiles over the next few days for the Six Nations review and I'm going to get their feedback on how things went and where they think we need to go forward. The key thing for the whole of Scottish rugby is to maintain continuity and to keep up skilling the players and at Glasgow and Edinburgh to keep increasing their expectation."

The 28-year-old, capped four times by his country, will leave Super 14 outfit the Queensland Reds this summer and join the Welsh region in July 2009, subject to obtaining a work permit and passing a medical.

Also in the Super 14, Brumbies prop Guy Sherpherdson has been banned for two weeks after being found guilty of striking by a SANZAR judiciary. Shepherdson was yellow-carded during his side's win over the Bulls after he appeared to knee Bulls lock Danie Rossouw in the head.

Shepherdson's sentence was downgraded from three games in view of his excellent disciplinary record in the past for both the Brumbies and Australia. He will miss away matches against the Reds and Hurricanes and will be eligible for a return to action on May 9.

Moseley claimed the EDF Energy National Trophy after overcoming National One leaders Leeds Carnegie 23-18. Two converted first half tries by Dan Norton and Andy Binns secured their victory and sent recently promoted Leeds Carnegie home empty handed.
