Profile

Munster's Springbok prop Wian du Preez may have arrived as a stopgap but has gone on to become a crucial member of the Irish province's side.

The Free State native is a strong scrummaging loosehead who arrived in Ireland as cover for the injured Marcus Horan on a three month deal. Having made his debut against the Ospreys, he impressed and returned for the 2010/11 season on a two year deal and has featured prominently for the 2008 European champions.

Du Preez is a former Cheetah and Emerging Springbok prospect who was capped by the full South African team in a 32-10 victory over Italy in Udine on November 21, 2009. The call up had much to do with the player's proximity to the squad, but if he continues to develop at Munster another cap may be on the horizon.
