Australia back Kurtley Beale has been charged with common assault following an alleged confrontation in Brisbane.
The Melbourne Rebels playmaker - who is currently sidelined with a shoulder problem - was involved in an altercation at the Victory Hotel last weekend while out with Quade Cooper, the Australia fly-half.
The Australian Rugby Union (ARU) has suspended an independent inquiry into the events following the charge.
"Queensland police have informed Kurtley Beale he will face one count of common assault following an alleged incident in Brisbane nine days ago," an ARU statement read.
"As a result the ARU's disciplinary process into the same issue headed by integrity manager Phil Thomson has been placed on hold until the external matter has been resolved.
"Until then, Kurtley will remain available for selection at Super Rugby and international level."
Beale sat out the Wallabies' second Test victory over Wales in Melbourne on Saturday but could be in contention for the third game, in Sydney next Saturday.
