Reports in Australia suggest that the pair were involved in an incident with security guards outside of a hotel in Brisbane after they were not allowed to re-enter the venue. Police were called but no arrests were made.
The ARU has confirmed that they are investigating the incident and have referred the pair to an "ARU disciplinary review procedure".
The pair are not involved with Australia's Test against Wales on Saturday due to injury but the incident will do little to improve their chances of a recall prior to the end of the Test series.
Kurtley Beale is recovering from a shoulder injury while Quade Cooper is still recovering from the knee injury he sustained at the end of the 2011 World Cup.
