Terry Holmes is a former Wales and British & Irish Lions scrum-half who later switched codes to league, playing for Bradford Northern. He only played 25 Test matches for Wales as he was plagued by serious injuries which would ultimately end his professional career.
Holmes made his Wales debut in 1978 scoring a try in a narrow 19-17 loss to Australia in Sydney. He was effectively a replacement for the legendary Gareth Edwards, who made his final Wales appearance three months before Holmes made his debut. Despite the pressure of the tag, Holmes lived up to expectations, scoring nine career tries in a shortened career. He went on to make two Lions tours in 1980 and 1983 but injuries once again held him back as he was only able to play one Test on the 1980 tour and left New Zealand three years later without featuring in an international.
Holmes made his last Wales appearance against Fiji in 1985 scoring his ninth and final try in a 40-3 thrashing of the Pacific Islanders in Cardiff. He moved to League to play for Bradford Northern later that year but he was once again held back by injuries which brought an end to his career two years later. He went on to coach at Cardiff and Caerphilly before leaving his post to move into business.
