Formerly known as Lang Park, Suncorp Stadium can be found in the Brisbane suburb of Milton, and is the traditional home of Queensland Rugby League.

The ground is also however the state's No.1 venue for Rugby Union and Soccer, and thus serves as the home field for the Brisbane Broncos, Queensland State of Origin team, the A-League's Queensland Roar, and the Queensland Reds Super 14 team.

The venue first opened its doors in 1914 and following several redevelopment programmes now boasts a 52,500 capacity and rugby union was first played here during the World Cup of 2003.

The World Cup of 2003 saw Suncorp hosted seven Pool games from Pools 1 and 2, and two quarter-finals, Australia's 33-16 victory over Scotland, and tournament winners England's 28-17 triumph against Wales.

Following that World Cup, Queensland rugby union moved here from it's spiritual home at Ballymore. The move caused some consternation among union traditionalists, but has been widely accepted in the subsequent years.

In fact, the ground is something of a fortress for the Wallabies who have an impressive record here, losing only once in ten Test matches, 9-13 New Zealand in 2006.

That record is maintained by the cauldron-like configuration of the stadium. In a country of oval sporting cathedrals, Suncorp is very much a rectangular set-up, with the seating hugging to the touchline, and featuring steep upper tiers.

Locals say that Brisbane is a city with a village feel. The state capital has a rich sporting history, and it's one of the friendliest places in the world to watch your rugby. It's also the home of Castlemaine XXXX and Bundaberg Rum, which on match days flow freely in the hostelries of Caxton Street.
