Julian Salvi is a tenascious openside flanker who has the ability to rule the breakdown while sometimes stepping on the wrong side of the law.
The former Australian U21 captain played for the Brumbies between 2005-09 and established himself as a potential replacement for George Smith in the Wallabies side. But with David Pocock announcing himself as the answer, Salvi found his international prospects limited.
In 2009, Salvi opted for a one-year switch to Bath Rugby as a replacement for the outgoing flanker Michael Lipman. Salvi shone for the West Country side as he scooped their forward of the year award and pushed Nick Abendanon close for the player of the year gong.
But Salvi opted to move back to Australia and re-join the Brumbies. However, come the 2011-12 season and him once again failing to break into the international reckoning, Salvi moved to the Leicester Tigers as an injury replacement for their flanker Craig Newby. Salvi was once again immense in the Premiership and was rewarded for his stellar performances with a nomination for the Aviva Premiership Player of the Year award.
