Tom Varndell is one of the quickest wingers in the game and is known for his prolific strike rate.
Varndell burst on the rugby scene in 2004 as a teenager for Leicester Tigers. His impact was immediate, scoring the fastest hat-trick of tries in Premiership history in a devastating 13-minute period against Worcester in just his second game for the Tigers.
Varndell's star rose rapidly. The Colston College graduate, who was reportedly once clocked at 10.8 second over 100 metres in his socks, made his senior England 15-a-side and Sevens debuts in the space of five days in November 2005. He ended the season as the regular season's leading try scorer and was named Guinness Premiership Young Player of the Year.
He went on to star in England's 2006 Commonwealth Games winning side and toured Australia with the senior side. However, his club future cast into doubt when he was loaned out to Bedford at the start of the 2006/7 season. But he was soon back in the Leicester starting XV and scored 18 tries in 32 appearances during the 2007/8 season.
Despite returning to the Leicester set-up, Varndell struggled to break back into the England set-up and moved on to London Wasps in the summer of 2009. He quickly established himself as first-team regular with a prolific try-scoring streak at Wasps. And the following September he signed a new two-year contract extension as talk of a recall to the England set up increased.
