The Exeter Chiefs are closing in on the signing of Fijian international Watisoni Votu.

The Chiefs have been chasing Votu since the summer but visa issues have held up the recruitment of the 27-year-old flyer. Votu, who played against England in the November Test, travelled with club officials to the UK Border Agency in Cardiff on Monday.

And Chiefs coach Rob Baxter is optimistic that Votu will be a Chiefs player sooner rather than later. Baxter said: "As far as we are concerned, it's now all systems go and we hope to hear back from the agency in the next week to 10 days, after which we hope to then formally register him as an Exeter player."
