Clermont Auvergne held off a second half rally from La Rochelle to claim a 23-13 victory in their Amlin Challenge Cup quarter-final clash at the Stade Marcel Deflandre.
Wingers Aurelien Rougerie and Kini Murimurivalu crossed either side of half-time to propel the visitors to victory with fly-half Brock James weighing in with 13 points from the kicking tee. Les Jaunards' reward for winning the clash is a semi-final date with either Stade Francais or Montpellier who are due to meet at the Stade Charléty on Saturday.
The boot of fullback Greg Goosen kept La Rochelle in touch at the break and he converted his own try midway through the second half to pull his side level. But the Top 14 strugglers were unable to upset the formbook with Clermont reasserting their grip on the game in the closing stages.
