Carter goes under knife

Dan Carter has undergone surgery on the groin injury that cost him a central role in the All Blacks' World Cup campaign.

The All Blacks fly-half tore his groin in a training session ahead of the All Blacks pool game against Canada. He was consequently ruled out of the rest of the World Cup and replaced by Aaron Cruden.

Carter had surgery in Melbourne on Monday on his left adductor longus tendon and flew back to Auckland on Wednesday. The Crusaders playmaker reported that the operation "went well" and hopes to return to action in 12 weeks.
