Rory Lawson made his Scotland debut against Australia in November 2006, following his father Alan into the Scotland scrum-half jersey.
He made his Six Nations debut against England at Twickenham in 2007, and secured his first international start against France on the final day of the tournament. He was included in the Scotland squad for the 2007 World Cup, and played in games against Portugal and New Zealand during the tournament.
Lawson skippered Scotland 'A' in 2006 and 2007 before returning to full international action against England at Murrayfield in March 2008. He made further appearances against Argentina in the summer of 2008 before coming on as a replacement in all three of Scotland's autumn internationals.
Lawson made just two appearances for Scotland in 2009 but his impressive form for Gloucester saw him increasingly challenge Mike Blair and Chris Cusiter at international level and he started four of Scotland's 2011 Six Nations matches. He helped Gloucester to the Anglo-Welsh Cup and into the Aviva Premiership play-offs.
Lawson signed professional terms with Edinburgh in 2003 before moving to Guinness Premiership side Gloucester ahead if the 2006-07 season.
